Atham pathinu Thiruvonam :)

Aevarkkum Thiruvona aashamsakal !!! (Thiruvonam Day wishes to all of you!!!) :)

Finally, “Thiruvonam is here. This is our Day 10 pookkalam. It’s over :(

Day 10 - Thiruvonam

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira, Day 3 - Chothi, Day 4 – Vishakham, Day 5 – Anizham, Day 7 – Moolam, Day 8 – Pooraadam and Day 9 – Uthraadam. :)

Happy Onam, everyone. :) I hope you all had a lovely Onam.

Uthraada pookkalam

Today is “Uthraadam nakshathram. This is our Day 9 pookkalam.

Day 9 - Uthraadam

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira, Day 3 - Chothi, Day 4 – Vishakham, Day 5 – Anizham, Day 7 – Moolam and Day 8 – Pooraadam. :)

And I’ve fallen ill :( Baaaad fever :’( I don’t even know how I managed to sit through to complete this one. Well, right at the start, I was so tired and had an aching body, that made me very clumsy. After drawing an intricate, reeeeely awesome design, I spilt water all over it and washed away all the lines :( By then, I was almost in tears :D And then, we just did whatever we could: the main intent was to finish it ASAP and get into bed :(

My Thiruvonam‘s gonna be bad, sad and dull. Waaaaaaahhhhh :( :( :( :( :(

Pooraada pookkalam

Today is “Pooraadam nakshathram. This is our Day 8 pookkalam.

Just 2 more days to go :( Am already sad this is getting over. Sigh!

Day 8 - Pooraadam

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira, Day 3 - Chothi, Day 4 – Vishakham, Day 5 – Anizham and Day 7 – Moolam. :)

moolappokkalam

Today is “Moolam nakshathram. This is our Day 7 pookkalam. :)

Sorry folks, there was a jumble up with the order of the stars. It goes like this :
Atham, Chithira, Chothi, Vishakham, Anizham, Thrukkaetta, Moolam, Pooraadam, Uthraadam and  Thiruvonam. On Thiruvonam, the last of the pookkalam is designed, as grand as can be!

So, I missed out Vishakham earlier, and had named that one Anizham. So, actually, today is Moolam nakshathram.

Day 7 - Moolam

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira, Day 3 - Chothi, Day 4 – Vishakham, Day 5 – Anizham and Day 6 – Thiru Kaetta :)

Thrukkaetta pookkalam

Today is “Thiru Kaetta nakshathram. This is our Day 6 pookkalam. :)

The border, with all that multi-colour flower arrangement, is the result of left over, almost-wilted flowers from the past days ;) Effective utilisation of the entire flower collection ;) ;) ;)

Day 6 - Thiru Kaetta

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira, Day 3 - Chothi, Day 4 – Vishakham and Day 5 – Anizham :)

anizham pookkalam

Today is “Anizham nakshathram. This is our Day 5 pookkalam. :)

Ahem! Creativity dying out, i suppose :D Can’t tink of innovative designs anymore :D Lack of greens is very apparent. Lesson learnt. Tomorrow, there’ll be more greens :D :D

Day 5 - Anizham

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira, Day 3 - Chothi and Day 4 – Vishakham :)

Vishakham pookkalam :)

Today is “Vishakham nakshathram. This is our Day 4 pookkalam. :)

As is apparent from the relative lack of flowers, let me tell you…yesterday, we couldn’t steal :( I reached home late and was daaaaaamn sleepy, and couldn’t go flowers thieving :D Hence the sloppy design :D :D Tomorrow’s gonna be much much better :D

Day 4 - Vishaakham

And  here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham, Day 2 – Chithira and Day 3 - Chothi :)

Chothi pookkalam

Today is “Chothi nakshathram. This is our Day 3 pookkalam. :D

Thank God for a 2-11 office timing. No rush in the morning; lots of time to design a pookkalam and stare at if forever :D Only, stealing flowers at night will now be a bit of a problem :D Well, I guess we’ll have to venture out towards midnight. ;) There’s no going back on the stealing part of the pookkalam process ;)

Day 3 - Chothi

And here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham and Day 2 – Chithira :)

Chithira pookkalam :)

Today is “Chithira nakshathram. Plus, it’s Independence Day. So, here’s our Day 2 pookkalam . :)

We did not have  a “blue” flower, and spent about a minute or so wondering how to make the ‘chakra’ come alive on the flag. Finally, a bottle of blue fabric paint and a big white flower came to our rescue ;)

Day 2 - Chithira

.

And here’s what we designed on Day 1 – Atham. :)

Atham pathonam

Today, the 10-day-long Onam celebrations start. Today is “Athamnakshathram.

This is ‘technically’ our first Onam after my wedding (actually, it was last year, but my grandma had passed away and we did not get to celebrate it last year). To add to that, Amma is here too. And she’s always super enthu about all these things. So, we decided to celebrate it well. And the start is always with the daily pookkalam (flower carpet).

Yesterday. close to midnight, we went about our street in search of flowers. It’s most fun to ‘steal’ flowers for the pookkalam: that’s THE way to design one :D So, we went about, stole some, got scared by a few dogs and came back. Planned to wake up early for more flower hunting. But well, you all know I cannot sacrifice sleep :D So, while I snored away, Amma went about, collected more flowers and then woke me up.

And then, like ooooold times, we sat together and spread out the most amateurish flower carpet (the last time we made a pookkalam is while I was in Std 12). But well, as the days go on, we’ll get good at it :D Come Thiruvonam, and we’ll be super-duper pookkalam designers :D :D :D :D :D

This is our amateurish Day 1 pookkalam. I will torture you all for the next 10 days with such pics :P ;) :)
